He may have been a quiet and unassuming man, but Bob Paisley was one of the most successful managers in football history. Having taken over the job of Liverpool manager from the legendary Bill Shankly in 1974, he went on to preside over the most successul period seen by any English club both at home and in Europe. Under his managership from 1974 to 1983, Liverpool eventually won three European Cups, six league championships and one UEFA Cup. His European Cup wins came in 1977, 1978 and 1981.
Paisley had played for Liverpool after the Second World War and after retiring became one of the backroom staff and was a member of the legendary Liverpool 'Boot Room' which provided all of their managers for many decades, including Paisley's successor Joe Fagan who led the club to a further European Cup win in 1984.
