Gianni Rivera

Rivera was signed by Milan from Alessandria in 1960 and soon showed so much vision and passing ability in his inside left position that he was christened ‘Bambino d’Oro’ or Golden Boy. He went on to win two European Cups and three Italian titles. He won the Cup-Winners Cup in 1968 and 1973 and he was voted European Footballer of the Year in 1969. Rivera also played in the Italian side that reached the 1970 World Cup Final. Rivera played 501 times for Milan up until 1979 and scored 124 goals.

Rivera was outstanding in both Milan's 1963 European Cup Final win over Benfica and in the 1969 victory against a Johan Cruyff inspired Ajax.
